Many people watch themselves actively playing sports. This cannot be encouraged in all its manifestations. Including, in rather cardinal. One of these cardinal manifestations is bodybuilding. Someone believes that this is a wonderful and healthy activity, someone, on the contrary, believes that it is not too right, that a person only exposes himself to excessive risk. But still it’s difficult to call it a bad habit.
But what to call a bad habit more than real is smoking. Dangerous and destructive, it actively destroys the lives of a huge number of people. There are many negative consequences that a similar occupation entails. But what if a person simultaneously smokes and is engaged in bodybuilding? What to expect from such an interesting combination? Does this affect, for example, muscle growth and other factors that are so important for such athletes? Let’s try to figure out a little more detailed way in this difficult question. So, are bodybuilding and smoking compatible? Is it possible to combine smoking and sport – and how does the first affect the second?
The first problem that a bodybuilder arises is that for some reason he decided to properly spoil his health – this is a breathing problem. Tobacco smoke contains several thousand different substances, including rather heavy tar, which affects the body very badly. As a result, the lungs suffer greatly, and as a result, shortness of breath occurs, which interferes with performing, for example, cardio exercises and other high-intensity things. Because smoking and sports are better not to combine, they are not very compatible.
What is possibly the worst thing for a bodybuilder is that smoking has a very negative effect on his muscle growth. In fact, muscle growth is weakened to enormous limits. The fact of the matter is that nicotine increases the level of cortisol in the blood, as well as other stress hormones. This action promotes catabolism, that is, the destruction of protein compounds. Any bodybuilder should understand that from this muscle growth in the quantities in which it was previously, is simply impossible. But muscle is one of the foundations of bodybuilding, and it is the muscles that such an athlete seeks to maximize.
But not only muscle growth and breathing suffer from such bad occupation. There are other problems that should not be overlooked. For example, excitation of the central and peripheral nervous systems occurs, which leads to spasm of small vessels. This, in turn, increases blood pressure, increasing the load on the heart. Bodybuilders who are too fond of sports and do not fit correctly to it can have heart problems, and here they also increase. Heartbeat rises by about a third.
Myostatin levels also increase, which also slightly stops muscle growth. Also, the muscles (and not only muscles) are not very positively affected by the MAFbx enzyme. Another factor – smoking slightly reduces coordination, which can lead to traumatic situations during various classes – and here in some situations you can not do without injuries.
As we see, in principle, no one should smoke, and bodybuilders, whose health is one of the important aspects of professional activity, are not worth it. This will cause them serious problems that overlap with general deviations, which in principle arise in any smoker. Not only that, with a certain degree of probability, for example, oncology can develop, so also purely “professional” problems will not give any rest, so much smoking affects a person. Therefore, the question arises – is it worth it to succumb to such a harmful habit, if you really decided to embark on the path of health? Is it worth it to destroy the body if you decide to bring it into a state close to ideal? Hardly. Smoking in professional bodybuilding is unacceptable, as well as smoking in amateur bodybuilding.
Smoking affects both muscle growth and other factors that should bother you if you are carefully working on your body. So just don’t try to do such a bad thing. Just continue to do what you love and improve your health. Then both the muscles and the heart, and in general the whole body will be in order. And smoking and sports are not compatible.
