Alcoholism is not just a bad thing. This is a real disaster, which has a detrimental effect on a huge number of human lives. It is scary to think – after all, about one in three people in the world dies for reasons that are somehow related to alcohol consumption. Even a very strong body is not easy to bear the consequences of regular intake of alcoholic beverages.
What can we say when this organism is completely fragile? Or, worse, childish? But the problem is far from far-fetched – child alcoholism, perhaps, is not spread on the same impressive scale as an adult, but it has no less negative impact on societies.
The scale of the problem is really great. For example, two out of three teenagers have tried alcohol at least once in their life – for younger children, these statistics are slightly more moderate, but still sad. When a child tasted alcohol, then, according to statistics, in 60% of cases this was not at all at the insistence of his friends, but because he was hooked on it (directly or indirectly) by his parents. It is not surprising that the overwhelming majority of children who drink are from either troubled or underserved families. Finally, according to statistics, about 40% of all poisonings that children under 18 years of age experience are caused precisely by the ingress of alcohol into the body. So child alcoholism is a problem and the truth is extremely significant.
So what are the causes of childhood alcoholism? The causes of childhood alcoholism can be numerous and they usually go far beyond the scope of prosaic children’s curiosity and the desire to try everything that is possible. As mentioned above, the key reason is still the environment of children, with the environment at home. If the family is problematic, then there are many chances that the child will end up in the risk zone. Unfortunately, there are a lot of problem families in our country – everyone is aware of the economic situation.
But this is not the only reason. Often, on the contrary, parents indulge the child – give him too much money for pocket expenses and the child, finding a store with unscrupulous sellers, or asking an adult to buy him a beer, he drinks. And here, child alcoholism appears.
Also, the child often has some unresolved problems that he cannot solve in any other way (at least he thinks so) – and therefore he simply decides to forget about alcohol – and child alcoholism appears. Usually, he imitates adults in this, who set him an extremely negative example. And another motive that can push a child to start drinking alcohol is the desire to establish himself in front of his peers. For children, social status is very important, and such behavior can increase it. So too is child alcoholism.
Needless to say, that with such alcoholism is not enough to avoid significant problems? And the truth is, the consequences of childhood alcoholism are very great. Already from a young age, quite serious liver problems begin, which years later can lead to cirrhosis or fibrosis – and much earlier than if a person began to drink alcohol in adulthood. Problems begin with the brain, the functions of which are gradually starting to be disrupted. For example, alcoholic encephalopathy may develop, and this is a very, very dangerous phenomenon – and child alcoholism is to blame. And this is just a couple of examples from the whole wide list of diseases, pathologies and abnormalities that can provoke alcohol at a young age. In fact, the consequences of childhood alcoholism are much sadder.
What to do?
Of course, it is best to carry out preliminary prevention of such a problem. It is simple and straightforward – enough to have a trusting relationship with your child. Then he will not try to close himself from you – and you can always prevent a problem if it begins to manifest in one form or another.
But if the problem of child alcoholism has already begun to make itself felt, then more radical measures cannot be dispensed with. In particular, inpatient treatment is recommended. You should not be scared, it is not as intense as in adults, because the baby will definitely not be hurt there. But they can completely help to cope with a very negative problem, which in the future can ruin his whole life.
As we were able to make sure, child alcoholism is a real problem that destroys a huge number of lives. So do not be indifferent to stay away – you need to step by step to fight it. And it’s worth starting with your children. Proper education, as well as providing sufficient attention, is a guarantee that the child will not seek solace somewhere on the side, be interested in alcohol from an early age or get involved with bad companies. And if each parent will take a responsible approach to raising children, then the problem of child alcoholism may not disappear completely, but at least it will be several times smaller.
