The decision to part with a bad habit is usually not easy. Even when a person perfectly understands what harm he does to his health, it is difficult for him to quit smoking. On the one hand, it continues to be “kept” by a physiological dependence on nicotine, and on the other hand, by a psychological one, which is based on the connection between smoking and positive emotions. As a result of this connection, smoking is perceived as a pleasant process with which you can calm down, pass the time, think about something of your own, chat with friends. The process itself, although it is associated with the inhalation of bitter smoke, causes only positive emotions and pleasant sensations. It is this connection with pleasant sensations that makes smoking cessation difficult: how to give up what you like and bring pleasure? In order for the fight against smoking to become possible, smoking must be disgusting. When this activity begins to be associated with discomfort, it becomes much easier to tie it up.
There are various ways to cause aversion to cigarettes. Some of them are serious and scientifically based methods that require treatment in specialized medical institutions, while others exist at the level of traditional medicine. Of course, quitting smoking at home for many reasons is much easier: it does not require such financial and time costs as going to the clinic. However, home methods do not always bring the desired effect, so it is best to use the methods in combination.
Smoking aversion methods
The coding and hypnosis method helps to cause an aversion to smoking. The essence of this method is similar to the principles of coding for alcoholism. By visualizing the image of a cigarette and the smoking process itself, a person is immersed in an altered state of consciousness – trance. The control of consciousness is weakening. If the memories of smoking at this moment coincide in time with some negative event – smoking will continue to be associated not with joyful moments, but with negative. It can be a sharp unpleasant sound, a sudden flash of light. In itself, this effect does not cause any harm and does not pose a threat, but its suddenness helps to break the associative relationship between smoking and pleasant sensations and, on an unconscious level, reinforces another bundle that causes an aversion to cigarettes. Another method is medication. There are special pills and sprays that make the smoking process unpleasant. These drugs are made on a plant basis and contain extracts from various medicinal plants (mint, calamus rhizomes, etc.). The principle of action is that the substances contained in sprays or tablets act on the taste buds of the oral cavity. When nicotine enters the receptors after such an effect, very unpleasant taste sensations arise. As a result, smoking becomes extremely unpleasant precisely at the level of sensations, disgust arises for it. An additional effect of the use of these drugs is relaxation and sedation, which is also very important during the period of giving up smoking habits.
Alternative methods that help to cause an aversion to smoking do not cause much confidence. Part of these methods involves changing the properties of tobacco by adding different substances to it: crushed nails, ash from a burnt feather of a bird. It is also suggested to soak cigarettes in milk or yogurt, dry and smoke. Another category of folk methods involves exposure to receptors in the oral cavity. By analogy, as occurs with tablets or sprays, you can rinse your mouth before smoking with different compounds: a solution of tannin, a decoction of mint and rhizomes of calamus, and a solution of soda. It is believed that after such rinses the taste of cigarettes seems nauseous and a person has an aversion to smoking. The difficulty in using methods such as tablets, sprays, rinses or adding various substances to tobacco is that a person will have to consciously do things that obviously cause unpleasant sensations. This procedure can be done once, but in order to do this regularly, you need a strong desire to quit smoking and a strong willpower. From this point of view, coding and hypnosis are more effective ways to cause aversion to cigarettes. However, in any case, the key to the success of the whole event is the desire of the smoker himself to end his bad habit.
